- Over 15 years of research experience studying the New Zealand flora particularly Leptospermum scoparium (mānuka) and other honey yielding indigenous plant species.
- Lead researcher for Comvita at the University of Auckland and Honorary Research Fellow of the School of Biological Sciences.
- His research ranges from investigations of the quality of raw materials, chemical fingerprinting of products, the efficacy and therapeutic values of unique bioactive components, to the development of plantations as a honey source.
- Trained at the University of Waikato, completing biological undergraduate degree; an MSc (1st class) in association with AgResearch at Ruakura; and a PhD with Comvita and the Honey Research Unit at Waikato.
